In 1930s, China national government carried out "New Life Movement", meant to eliminate illiteracy, advocate knowledge and etiquette learning, as well as inspire people’s sense of honor and awareness of shame.

There is a remote mountain village in Shanxi Quxian County, named Li Zhuang. When the village head went to the county government for raising relief food, his daughter who married the magistrate’s son told him if they build an "integrity hall" in response to the call of government, not only can they get more relief food, but also a large amount of money.

The village head, whose upbringing was from the remote village, guided by the inherent clan culture thinking, due to his local dialect accent, wrongly understood the integrity temple as "widow Li Yilian’ s chastity temple", so that triggered a series of amusing incidents and ultimately led to the tragedy of the event...

Behind the process of this tragic event, under the collision and alternation between the old and new cultures and systems, hopefully we can jointly rediscover and rethink about human nature, as well as the conflicts between different cultures under the humanistic background in such a specific era.
