Since the 19th century, modernism originated from the West had begun making a mighty impact on the traditional and conservative China. Since 1840, throngs of Christian missionaries entered China. Schools founded by churches marked the beginning of modern Chinese education. The traditional Chinese education mode was influenced by Western theories. Centering on the Devout and Chaste Girls School, the documentary begins with two modern women chasing Swiss missionaries and tells a legendary story from an objective and rational perspective. The documentary recalls the historical and cultural background and presents the oblivious history.
