In B.C. 53, Crassus, the Archon of Ancient Rome led seven legions of over 40,000 troops for an eastward expedition to Parthia. Romulus, a Centurion from Roman First Legion got retired and went back home，only to find that his wife had set up another family. With remorse and agony, he returned to the battlefield in Parthia. At the battle of Carryae (today’s Harran of Turkey) , the Roman Legion was defeated. Romulus led the First Legion to break out eastward, however was forced to become mercenaries of the Huns. Luoying, a Han woman who was insulted by the Huns, was saved by Romulus .The two started a family. In B.C. 36, Gan Yanshou, Western Regions' Governor and Chen Tang, Deputy Commander of the Western Regions of the Western Han Dynasty led a 40,000 troops to against Zhizhi Chanyu of the Huns. Romulus said excitely : “We can go home when we defeat the Han army.” Luoying, however, was disappointed and replied: “If you win, I can never go back home!” That made Romulus change his mind eventually. In the end, the First Legion assisted the Han Dynasty and together defeated the Huns. Since then, the remained survivors of the First Legion followed the Han army and migrated to LiQian City in Hexi area of China (today’s Yongchang County of Gansu Province). They lived and prospered on that land. For some people, the story of Roman Legion wandering around China is simply a legend, whereas for the people of LiQian, that is their ancestor's true history.
