In Beijing, a group of young actors are rehearing “Lu Xun,” a play to be staged soon. The play features many puppets to present Lu Xun’s re-thinking on life and fate before his death. In Shaoxing, which is thousands of miles away, Lu Xun has become an image for local tourism promotion. Shaoxing opera, anise beans and Shaoxing rice wine are all associated with the humorous or painful characters and stories in Lu Xun’s works. The documentary “Lu Xun” features a collage of Lu Xun’s images from a unique perspective by visiting Lu Xun’s past residences in Beijing, Shanghai and Shaoxing, examining his relics and interviewing dozens of experts and scholars from home and abroad. Warmness and coldness, ice and fire, these elements seem contradictory, but are reflected from his deep eye expression. These are answers for diligent researchers on Lu Xun. The year of 2016 is the 80th anniversary of Lu Xun’s death. People cherish this outspoken man of letters. - This video is subject to the 2017 Canada Golden Maple film festival screening and selection.
